Im a retired band director of 25 years in the Dallas ISD on all levels. I enjoy teaching privately. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas, and Masters of Science in Music Technology from Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis. In high school I had the great privilege of being selected as the Principal clarinetist in the Minnesota All-State Band. We performed at the summer camp designed for these groups and recreated our performance at Orchestra Hall, home of the Minnesota Orchestra, the following spring. Clarinet is my primary instrument and first love. I also teach saxophone and beginning flute and hope to add other woodwinds in the future. I have earned Honorable Mention in the OU Concerto Competition, and I received the Most Outstanding Clarinet Studio Member as a sophomore. I was also the clarinetist in the Undergraduate Woodwind Quintet. As a member, we placed 2nd in the OkMEA Regional Chamber Competition. No matter what age, any starting clarinetist needs to understand the fundamentals of the clarinet. Once these fundamentals are acquired, we move on to the basics of reading music and playing the clarinet such as learning the circle of fourths and practicing pieces of music that is from a certain major scale. Ear training and music theory will also be involved in each lesson to understand music further.
