I have been playing the Cello for 19 years, and it is my greatest passion in life. I can rarely contain my excitement when it comes to Classical music, and it is my goal as a teacher to encourage this same excitement about music in my students. I have not only studied as a cellist, but as a conductor and musicologist. I have had the opputunity to study with some of the countries greatest pedagogues, including Nancy Hair, Peter Howard, and Raimi Solomonov.I just recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Drake University, and I am currently working on my Masters of Music at the Chicago College of Performing Arts with renowned cellist Richard Hirschl. I have been actively teaching violin, viola, cello, and piano since 2002. In addition to classical music, I am very passionate about the traditional music of East Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Celtic lands, and have performed music from many global traditions as both a soloist and a member of various bands and ensembles. The most effective teachers that I have had were teachers who recognized these important factors in the student-teacher relationship- that the best education experiences occur when both the student and the teacher embark on a positively-reinforced exploration together as opposed to the teacher solely dictating negatively to the student. I am a committed educator, passionate about sharing the cello with anyone and everyone who wants to learn! I received my Bachelors of Music in Cello Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York in 2015. After graduating, I moved to Chicago Illinois, where I have enjoyed an active teaching, performing, recording and touring schedule. In addition to my classical pursuits, I am an avid fan of cross-genre collaborations and have performed, recorded and toured with a variety of Chicago-area bands, some of which include: Rebecca Rego and the Trainmen, Poor Calvin, Fuzzy Poser, Audrey Q, Brian McGrath and The Phantom Broadcast.
