Instruments: Piano Cello Music

For all my cello students, I start with 170 Foundation Studies and a modified Suzuki Method (Cello). Once my students reach Suzuki book 4, then they can start playing Bach Suites, and other intermediate repertoir. The Bach Suites, however, are what most of my cello students are interested in learning. For piano students, I use the Bastien piano series by Neil Kjos. Depending on my student's age and skill level I usually have them begin with Suzuki books, Essential Elements books, or a combination of the two. As students advance I often incorporate etudes and/or exercises by Lee, Dotzauer, Galamian, Mooney, Sevcik, Duport, and Popper. While ear training is an essential skill that I teach to all of my students, the younger a student is the more I'll have them "play by ear" instead of reading sheet music. Read More

For bass guitar I use the Mel Bay Bass Guitar Method which takes a student from creating rocking bass lines to building kicking bass licks from chord changes.Double Bass students will have classical training, techniques to build a solid, warm tone, use of the bow, and orchestral repertoire, including solo pieces. I typically use the Applebaum String Builder method books, and supplement with solo pieces as needed. I encourage regular practice, as students who feel they are progressing and doing well tend to enjoy their instrument more. As they become more advanced, they are encouraged to start giving opinions on what they want to learn. I am a passionate instructor who enjoys working with students of all ages. I started performing, professionally, at a very young age, during my 6 years at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. From there, I attended the Louisiana State University, as a cello performance major and performed with the school symphony, as well as the Alexandria Symphony, the Lake Charles Symphony and local venues. I went on to get my Master's degree at Georgia State University and then returned to Louisiana State University for my final degree in Cello Performance. Read More
