In 2019, I graduated from Temple University with a B.M. in Music Therapy/Cello where I studied both classical and jazz music. I've been playing cello for 13 years in orchestras, quartets, jazz combos, and my personal favorite, rock bands. I always stress to my students that practice is important, however, it is also important how you practice. This is something that I take the time to instill in all my students. Along with how you practice, how much you practice is also important. One thing I always stress to my students is that it has to be something that you can fit into your schedule. With my adult students this is always more challenging, but I remind them not to be discouraged and to focus on keeping their passion for wanting to learn. Read More

I usually begin by working through the Suzuki method books, and then from there try to branch out into other material depending on the student's skill. I'm always open to trying different songs and even encourage my students to find songs that they want to play. While working on different pieces, I'll also focus on techniques of holding the cello and the bow, things that I consider very important to correct and improve, especially at a young age. Read More

For very beginning students, I usually start with the Suzuki Method Books and All For Strings Comprehensive String Method Books. I usually encourage my students to read music, but for the youngest students I start by playing with them and having them copy me. Once they are ready, I start teaching them basic music theory that will help them read music. For intermediate to advanced players I institute a routine of practicing scales and etudes as well as a solo piece that is appropriate for their ability level. Read More
