After receiving my degree in 2000, my first job was in the public school system in Bridgeton, NJ. I was brought in to build the orchestra program from scratch. I was in charge of selecting instruments and supplies to be purchased for the district as well as write the curriculum. During my time in the district, I taught 4th to 8th grade strings, as well as band, and was the assistant marching band director for the high school. Read More

My style of teaching is straightforward, fun, focused and also enthusiastic with many years of real life experience behind it. I love teaching in general, and to combine that with something so creative and expressive, is a dream come true! What gets me excited and sustains my passion for teaching is when there are challenges and the student breaks through them and gains knowledge, confidence and hopefully some “life tools” they can bring out into the world. I was taught primarily in the William Leavitt method, and use these resources to introduce students to the basics of sight-reading, theory, and technique. My personal preference is not to adhere too strictly to any one method however, instead focusing on the application of theory within a more active musical context. Improvisation is extremely important to developing a working understanding of music in my opinion, and much of my lessons are based in actively performing progressions with students, focusing on both comping and soloing. I aim to equip each and every one of my students with a level of musical understanding that will reward them with their own respect and passion for music. I believe that self-confidence and setting goals is important for development and so I encourage my students to embrace their own musical ideas while adjusting my teaching methods to each of them. I teach to give my students a great sense of self-confidence and to provide them with an understanding of musical expression so that they may unlock their full potentials. Read More

I began teaching just over ten years ago at a music school and instrument retailer called The Music Place, where I worked for two years and had many long term students. It was a great experience but I left because the commute became too far so I decided to begin home lessons instead. This turned out to be a wonderful turn of events because home lessons can be much more open and relaxing since were not stuck in a little cube room half-way filled with a piano. Read More

I believe in adhering to the needs of the student, be it ear training, sight reading, or visual learning. Music is a complex and beautiful journey. I believe in providing students with all of the skills they need to acheive their goals. Some people want to play jazz, some people want to perform, and some people just want to strum songs they can sing along too...it is all music, and my job is to help people express that. Read More

I began playing piano for church choirs in my hometown. During my college years, my private lessons experience began when I would give pointers to my fellow music majors who had to pass piano proficiency as part of their degree requirement. Furthermore, I am from the school of thought of concentrated practice. I help students identify the length of time they can concentrate without exhausting their attention. I always want students to have in mind the goals they want to accomplish in taking lessons such as recitals, competitions, showcasing and/or enrichment. Read More
