My teaching experience dates back to when I was in high school, when I began teaching beginning students of all instruments 10 years ago. I have been consistently teaching students in their homes, my home, and online for the past 5 years. Ive found that introducing students to as many different styles of music as possible goes a long way in helping students enjoy playing their instrument and listening to recordings of their instrument. As students advance, I incorporate more sophisticated method books and introduce a diverse range of cello pieces tailored to their skill level. Emphasizing a comprehensive approach, I encourage the practice of scales and arpeggios using Hans Jensen's "Galamian Ivan Scale System" to strengthen their technical foundation. For adult learners, I engage in a collaborative discussion about their musical preferences after introducing them to cello basics. This allows me to tailor lessons to their interests, keeping the learning experience engaging and captivating. Read More

If teaching the 'cello, I like to use the instruction book that I learned from which is Samuel Applebaum's Beginning Strings book and around this I will introduce more international music, often in duet form to help with intonation. After the student develops good basic technique, then sonatas and concerti are gradually introduced. If teaching the piano, then I make sure that Dozen a Day for the beginners is incorporated with any of the beginning/intermediate books such as John Thompson's, Edna Mae Burnam's or Frances Clark's methods and for more advanced piano students the Hanon exercises are included along with the standard Classical repertoire. Therefore, every student is taught differently, according to what works for them, and how the student is comfortable being taught. Student's will learn at their own pace while being encouraged to go beyond what they believe they are capable.
