This way of thinking not only provides my students with a false sense of hope, but more importantly is simply unattainable. In the modern age of playing, too often do I feel students losing sight of what is most important: the music. My teaching experience is quite varied, with ages and subject material. My earliest teaching experiences were mentorship programs in my local youth symphonies as a high schooler, and since then I've taught in before and after-school programs, private and group lessons, orchestra sectionals, chamber music, and classroom ear training. Through my experience in teaching and chamber music, I really try to curtail expectations and goals to a student's individual wants from music making, so that students can feel proportionally challenged and confident to the amount of time they'd like to put in. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with teaching basic music theory, scales, and start with John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course for the piano students. For Cello beginning students, it's very important to have a correct playing position. Therefore, we will spend some time on knowing cello, position for both hands, and then we will start with Suzuki. I'm a passionate instructor whose goal is to empower students through music. In May 2018, I graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Cello Performance. At BU, I had the opportunity to perform as assistant concertmaster with the University Orchestra, and performed in master classes for Boston Symphony Orchestra members. I also spent a semester studying music in London, at the renowned Royal College of Music. For beginning students I start with the Suzuki cello books, and teach books 1 to 5. I reinforce the Suzuki with pop/ non-classical songs, depending on the student's interest. After Suzuki 5, which is well into the intermediate level, I introduce individual works (small concerto's, sonatas, etc.) and cater them towards the student's ability and interest.
