I was taught primarily in the William Leavitt method, and use these resources to introduce students to the basics of sight-reading, theory, and technique. My personal preference is not to adhere too strictly to any one method however, instead focusing on the application of theory within a more active musical context. Improvisation is extremely important to developing a working understanding of music in my opinion, and much of my lessons are based in actively performing progressions with students, focusing on both comping and soloing. As soon as I graduated high school, I began teaching with my old high school as an assistant. Over the course of time I began progressing in my playing which lead to more teaching positions in various styles and genres of music from Drumline to Jazz. Educating and passing along concepts is one of the most important roles as a musician. The goal is to give your students enough tools to surpass you as a mentor. Read More

I've had 10 years of teaching experience with developing my own approach to custom lessons for different needs and tastes in music. I began teaching in 2004 and never looked back.I have also coached ROCK BANDS and taught rock-band clinics in the past 6 years.I've acquired so much experience from teaching different styles. I believe everyone is different and it takes a certain approach to learning music. I'm very passionate with teaching music and music theory, and I love explaining what goes behind students' favorite songs such as chord progressions, scales, and technique. "Practice makes perfect"- I can't stress enough how important it is for a student to practice and do their homework and work on their developments. Read More

All I want is to know that my students are enjoying music more deeply, and that they gain the self-sufficiency to learn between lessons. I make sure to point out milestones that a student has achieved to encourage that innate human drive for improvement, and always keep looking for what is exciting and inspiring for the student at a given time. I make sure each student I work with knows what elements to include in their practice, how to learn a piece of music from scratch, and how to break things down into manageable, learnable chunks. I'm very patient and fun. My concept is a very straight forward approach by applying theory and technique to pieces of music. The student learns proficiencies [scales, chords, theory, technique and more ] Develops a song list. With a check list of things to do with the songs. melody, chords , advanced chords , chord melody, improvisation, riffs Also we study composition and song writing. Read More

For beginners to the guitar, bass or banjo I usually start with the basic notes and chord shapes. When they progress and for more advanced students, I introduce reading tab, music, scales and basic chord progressions. For advanced students I generally work with modes, finer technique and advanced sightreading, chordal and modal melodies. To work in practice exercises I typically bury them in pieces the student enjoys to better get the hang of them. Read More

Since 1996 I have been solely committed to a career in teaching and performing professionally. My Father was an amateur jazz pianist, my Grandmother, a professional opera singer prior to marriage. My earliest memories came with a soundtrack: my Dads piano playing. I studied privately both on piano (early) and guitar (later), starting somewhere in my fifth year. I always took advantage of musical opportunities afforded me at school whenever appropriate, whether that was a school musical, talent show, battle of the bands, jazz band or music elective.
