I am a patient and flexible teacher. I have extensive knowledge of theory and various techniques, but I make sure the student is learning what they want. I believe in teaching songs to introduce new skills. Through repertoire, the student can learn theory, ear training, technique and other fundamental skills. I have been playing guitar and bass since 2000 and started playing piano and ukulele in college in 2008. I specialize in jazz and improvisation, but I have studied and love all kinds of music like folk, reggae, classical, rock and blues. Read More

My teaching experience began junior year of college when we started doing trial "lessons" in our classes and in the surrounding public schools of Lowell. Over that time I acquired specific techniques and methods that I have been able to apply to classroom settings and to individual students alike. Starting towards the end of my senior year I began doing private lessons on Guitar and hope to continue doing them for some time. Read More

In the earliest stages of learning, such considerations as posture and proper technique are crucial if a student is to be comfortable with playing, achieve early success, and lay the foundation for further progress. The way I have tried to sell this to students is: the accepted technique became so because it is the easiest and most comfortable way to play. In terms of early success, at the earliest point possible I teach/encourage a student to play a song however simple in its entirety, slowly but steadily and clearly. Read More

I strongly believe that everyone is very different. Learning styles and musical goals are very much a part of this. Some find reading from a book helps them, so for most students I begin by recommending "A Modern Method For Guitar" from the Berklee Press, however for others a book is not as helpful as listening to some music and watching someone play. I like to introduce as much theory as is desired from the student because theory is a very important part of the musical process, but if the student prefers to get playing first and understand the “why” later then we can work something out in that regard. Depending on musical interest, we can work with different genre's and pieces to promote specific techniques and practice routines. Read More

For beginners just learning how to play their instrument, I start with exercises from an assortment of beginner books as well as teaching the fundamentals of scales, and basic chords which would give them the grasp on the music they want to learn. For students of all levels I basically care about finding what the student is interested in and building upon their tastes. I find that the most important thing is keeping the student engaged by being interested in not only the music itself but also the practice and routine. Read More

I cater my teaching style to each student's age, skill level and personality. I have a patient, relaxed teaching style but I'm always ready and willing to push the student as far as they want to go, encouraging them to try their best. Lessons are usually organized into a section focused on technique and music theory followed by a period dedicated to playing songs together, polishing up repertoire and focusing on playing music in real time, together as an ensemble. I actually began teaching under my teacher when I was about 14 years of age. Since that time I've worked with young and old and done my best to give them the joys of music that everyone should have at some point. I've been very fortunate to have had a good number of students who have enjoyed great success with music as a profession. I try to impart my wisdom and experience to assist students in achieving their musical goals, whatever they may be. Read More
