A total beginner will usually start by learning chord progressions that are specifically in a major scale progression (ex. C-Dm-Em-F-G-Am-Bdim). Using chord progressions allows my students to grow accustomed to the feel of the guitar and the fundamental hand strength needed to play, as well as the finger dexterity needed to play certain chords. For younger beginning students, I typically start with either the Suzuki Guitar Method or Alfred's Kid's Guitar Course 1. For older children, I typically start with either the Suzuki Guitar Method or Guitar for Kids: Hal Leonard Guitar Method. Students are able to progress through the Suzuki Guitar Method through multiple volumes, or move through the Hal Leonard Guitar Method - Book 1 and continue through subsequent method books. For a classical guitar approach, I use the Suzuki Guitar Method, the Fredrick Noad Method Books, and the Christopher Parkening Guitar Method Book. Read More
