I like to follow a format for lessons, giving a certain amount of time to warming up, practicing technical studies and scales, etudes or lessons, solo literature and ensemble (duet, trio, ensemble) literature. I would encourage students to make an agenda for practicing, I believe many student need to learn how to practice, much like study skills, so they can make good use of their time. I graduated in 1981 from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Music Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Trombone Performance. I love how music is more than notes on a page. They're expressions of oneself. Knowing how to interpret these notes is very important to learning the fundamentals of music.
