It is very important to me that my students love coming back to me rather than dreading the next lesson. My mom used to always tell me about how her mom made her go to lessons and her teacher was horrible so she quit! I want to be very personable to my students and let them trust that I will do what I need to do in order for them to succeed. Read More

My studio has the latest technology to reinforce skills and knowledge that are being taught and learned. For my youngest students I use Music for Little Mozarts. I have developed a curriculum supplementing this particular series - rhythm is experienced with percussion instruments, boom whackers, and lots of fun music games "off the bench". Time is spent both "on the bench" (playing on the keyboard), and "off the bench". For students 6 years old and above I use the Faber & Faber method, although If that particular method doesn't "click" with a student, then I certainly have others I use. Read More

I create custom lesson plans depending on each student's musical background, stylistic preference, as well as age. For children I usually like to teach out of Hal Leonard's Guitar Method 1 and occasionally include songs they like/know as a reward for good work. For adults, it varies depending on their experience level and interests. When I teach, I try to teach not only how to physically play certain parts, but also how to think about music-- how the guitar player arrived playing that, why it works, and how to adopt similar things into one's own playing. I've had the opportunity to take guitar and voice lessons from a number of great instructors, and have learned a multitude of great methods from them. When learning the fundamentals of guitar, I find it easiest to first learn through visually learning the hand shapes and hearing the different notes and intervals. The names of the chords and sight reading can come secondary once you have a basic understanding of how to play. Read More

Easy going, but serious with regard to practice/application. My teaching approach: I possess a thorough knowledge of the instrument. Focus on proper technique for all students, regardless of his/her playing ability. Once proper technique is established, I utilize the Berklee Series as a basis for instruction. These volumes are supplemented by exercises, which I write specifically for the particular student’s needs. As the student progresses, I incorporate tunes that the student wishes to learn into the lesson plan.My guitar lessons take place in: Either locationGuitar Techniques: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerpicking, Slide Guitar, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Guidance In Equipment Selection Read More
