For beginning students I make sure we know every warm up exercise and stretching exercises for the fingers after explaining the importance of rehearsing properly. We will start getting familiarized with a couple circles until the student fluently knows how to accompany every chord. After we are going to learn scales so they also familiarized with licks and comp. I believe that in order to be successful we should start from the beginning. With this being said we will first start out with scales and then work our way up. If the student is struggling with a certain scales or notes we will concentrate on those until he or she masters them and then move forward. Teaching is about patience and understanding. I have both! For beginning students, I use the Trevor Wye beginning books and supplement with solos, etudes, songs and exercises that I give them which are appropriate for their level. For more advanced students, I will use etudes and methods/ solos which are appropriate for their level. For adults, I will find their interests and select a course of study with them.  With all students, I will assist with their school music or any ensemble/ solo music they wish. From there I can make a proper study plan for them as an induvidual, which is paramount in helping achieve the students expectations.
