I began teaching flute lessons when I was in my undergraduate degree. I had private students from local high schools in Iowa City. I then was selected to be the flute instructor at a New Horizon's Band Program. In this program, I taught flute choir to retired adults twice each week, and some of them became my private students. I generally start off my beginners with A.C. Peterson's Rubank Elementary Method or Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence. After they develop the basic skills, I will move the student onto Robert Cavally's Melodious and Progressive Studies etude book. From there, I may introduce solo repertoire into the curriculum.
