There is nothing more rewarding than to see a student develop a passion for music! This is something that takes time to develop. I encourage students to set goals, both short and long term. I have found that one of the best ways to teach, is to teach a student to teach themselves. Then they will work to broaden their own horizons, introduce the teacher to new material that they might not have heard about without their students. Read More

My name is ERIK! But you already knew that from the top of the page. I've been playing drums for about 13 years (taking my own lessons for 10 of them) and have been lucky enough to learn under some great musicians who influenced greatly what I know and can do today. I've done Jazz bands, funk bands, rock bands, pit bands, marching bands, and even pep bands! In addition I learned some Japanese Taiko drumming while I lived in Japan for a few months. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

Teaching people to be musicians is probably the best thing I can think of doing as a career in my life, other than of course performing live and playing with bands and making music. I would love to teach people how to play music so that they can teach others and the world can be full of music. Together, we can help change the world. Playing music for charity and benefits is something I also do. Read More

The first few lessons will be to gauge where the student is at technically, as well as musically. I like to cater to the needs of the student. Lessons can be as fast paced, or slow moving as the student would like. The important thing is to be comfortable with a technique before introducing new ones. Like I stated earlier, lessons will also include a historical study element. Drumming is best taught through studying the great drummers and musicians who have already mastered the instrument. I do believe in the fundamentals of music and ultimately, no matter what you hear, learning music is not re-inventing the wheel. There is technique, reading music and understanding the basics of how the particular instrument works. I like the Essential Elements for Guitar or bass for guitarists and bassists and Alfred's Piano method books. Ted Reed's Guide to Syncopation is a good drum book. Ultimately I like to get the know the student as much as I can as soon as I can so I can help them get to what they want as soon as possible with a few laughs along the way. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
