I have been teaching lessons for 5 years now and got started teaching while studying at Berklee, since then I have grown a lot as a teacher. I have taught guitar and music production at Needham Public High School, where I taught students of all skill levels in classroom settings. I also currently teach at School of Rock Watertown where I teach private lessons as well as ensembles. In both of these jobs, I worked with students of varying age ranges from 7 to 70+ and learned techniques to make information stick. Read More

With students of any age, I consider it my number one priority to create a learning environment that is both encouraging of their growth and passion for music, and supportive/safe for them to take the risks and meet the challenges necessary for that growth. I always work to maintain a dialogue with students about their interests and ensuring that our work includes and stimulates those interests, while also finding ways to make our work on fundamental techniques and building blocks as engaging and fun as possible. Now the student has the expectation that, at whatever point of progress, we will be playing songs through, in steady tempo, clearly and with proper technique. Thus the student/teacher relationship becomes a microcosm of playing in a band! The student is empowered by concrete success, and I, the teacher, am rewarded by the affirmation of getting her/him to play successfully. Further on, I use my sense of what sorts of music the student likes and is interested in, to direct our process in a direction which they will enjoy and which will motivate them. Read More

I began learning piano at the age of three. My dad is a band and chorus teacher and didn't consider it an "optional" skill. I actually learned to read music before english! (I was confused in kindergarten when I found that the alphabet went past G!) Music has been an integral part of my life since then with my elementary and high school years filled with festivals, concerts, auditions and competitions. Read More

My personal pedagogy is a combination of the basic technical and theoretical aspects of the instrument and what music the student is interested in. It is paramount that students of all levels are learning their instrument through performing their favorite music. All necessary technical exercises can be adapted to a specific genre of music. My lessons are structured around an appropriate, often small, amount of music theory. We can then play some of the student's favorite music that incorporates that lesson. Read More

I have been teaching privately for 40 years. My approach is to find out and pinpoint the students goals which we work on together to find out what they are. Many of my bass students have gone on to start their own bands or been hired by working bands and have their own careers. The goal is to learn and keep it interesting having fun while we are working together motivating the student to practice and get better. Read More
