Voice Lessons in Strongsville, OH

Instruments: Voice

I began teaching voice lessons in my first year at Susquehanna University. The range of students I received throughout my four years there provided me with numerous pedagogical challenges and valuable insights into the psychology of teaching one on one with students. Some of these students included singers with a strong musical theater backgrounds, young athletes wanting to be the front men of their budding rock bands, and students with vocal injuries so severe that they could do little more than speak. I simply enjoy helping people establish and accomplish their goals on their instruments. The first step is to identify what holds a student's attention. What is it about music that has motivated them to study? Not everyone has the same goal or vision, which is a good thing. Even self-taught musicians incorporate theory and harmony into their compositions. My personal style toggles between when I was 14 learning Metallica songs to the present, having studied jazz and classical harmony. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days in Italy, as I began teaching private lessons part time 6 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 4 years. Although I come from the classical environment, I've found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the singing and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. I have taught lessons on-and-off throughout my college career. This began about five years ago when a few of my friends communicated interest in learning various instruments. What started as casual pointers then developed into structured half-hour lessons each week. As a music therapist, I also have experience teaching adaptive lessons for those with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Students are encouraged to select repertoire of their choice in order to make the learning process more personal and enjoyable. Read More

My name is Rowanne, and I have graduated in Voice - Performance from Berklee College of Music. Coming from the struggling yet revolutionary country of Lebanon, I have found healing in expression and performance. Finding my voice constituted the foundation of my artistic journey as a singer, dancer and actor.  That is why my aim in life is to help others liberate themselves and find their own voice. I love singing in various languages such as Arabic, Greek, French, English, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, as I am deeply drawn by the mixing of different genres of music from all around the world. I am a very kinesthetic teacher. We move around the room a lot during lessons because piano, flute, and voice should be an extension of music that is first heard in the mind (inner hearing/audiation), so note playing/singing is not merely a muscle memory. We sing, tap, or clap 90% of music we learn before we attempt to play it on an instrument or sing it resonantly. Thinking through a vocal line and anticipating the high notes and the openness needed in the body/throat and the breath support needed will help the student discover an unknown freedom and give them tools to help transfer this into other songs.
