Mary began taking music lessons at age 5. She still retains the record at her high school for most awards in music. After high school, she earned a Music/Business Administration degree from Millikin University, a certification in audio engineering from the Conservatory of Recording Arts Sciences, and an MBA in e-Business from the University of Phoenix. Mary is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), as well as the National Academy of Recording Arts Sciences (NARAS). Read More

I started teaching private voice lessons during my first year of college in 2012. I enjoy prepping students for auditions as well as teaching proper warmups. One of the techniques that helped me the most at a young age was learning how to support my voice with my breath. Breath makes a huge difference in vocal quality and the correct breathing methods can become second nature after working on breathing exercises. Read More

Learning music (and the necessary skills to facilitate that music) that each individual student is passionate has been the focus of my teaching style. I love helping students play music they never though they'd be able to play, find other styles they love, and even compose new music. Broadening musical horizons and discovering new music seems to be the best motivator for students continue to hone their craft to be the best it can be. Read More

I want my students to find enjoyment and purpose from making music first and foremost. Every student has a unique set of skills, and not every student learns the same way. I believe that something valuable can be learned from any single piece of music. Etude books, like Voxman's Selected Studies, and Rochut's Melodious Etudes are my go to for daily practice, but are not the only option available. I like to take a pragmatic approach to teaching, and will modify any exercises and routines as needed to get the best result from each student. Read More

I'm an upbeat instructor who loves helping young singers realize their own potential. I pride myself on teaching not only the HOW but also the WHY technique works. No matter what the style the singer wants to perform, I firmly believe a solid base in classical technique can be transferred to any style. I have performed with multiple symphonic choirs and also had the chance to sing backup for Madonna at the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. Read More

The most important philosophical concept about private lessons is this: proceed in a way that will maximize your potential to achieve an excellent goal that you can call your own. Although I am not limited to one method book or another, I typically use Arban's for trumpet lessons - with other books and repertoire along with it. My background is Suzuki violin, followed by music literacy and transposition. So, whatever method book we select, we must consider basic furthering of direct musical perceptions, in addition to achievement of stated goals. Read More
