Instruments: Piano Violin Music
I put great emphasis on establishing a very good control on the technique of violin. I do it by teaching students how to do scales and etudes while having fun and making themselves more motivated by setting their own goals and achieving them, which also builds up their confidence. After students get more and more in command of themselves and the violin, I would then proceed to help the students with their own repertoire and guide them to formulate their own musical ideas and make their own voice be heard! For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers To Play." Once the student has progressed and becomes more familiar with reading the notes in both clefs, I will begin to introduce solo pieces of music that the child picks out of the choices I present to them. I do this to help encourage and reward the child with their success. For adult piano students, I find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly. Read More
Instruments: Violin Cello Viola Double Bass
I work in partner with students who are enrolled in public school lessons, and incorporate their school's method book (i.e. Essential Elements 2000 or similar), as well as rudimentary exercises and pieces appropriate for their level. I am a strong advocate of Kreutzer etudes, Hrimaly scales, and Suzuki pieces as learning tools. I guide my instruction based around the students' ability, needs, and goals. I believe that learning music is a constant conversation between student, teacher, and any others involved (parents, guardians, siblings, school music teacher), and like to keep communication open with weekly notes and homework assignments recorded in a music notebook. MUSIC SHOULD AND MUST ALWAYS BE FUN. My Teaching style is relax but very educational. I use lots of examples and stories to get my point across. We can also view youtube videos, old recording of performance, and advance music technique books to learn. I teach by example. I will play and show you how to do it step by step at your own pace. I let the student learn at their own speed without any pressure or rush. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Suzuki Method. I introduce the student to basic instrumental technique on their chosen instrument, whether it be violin or piano. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola
I've enjoyed teaching piano, violin and viola students, for the past seventeen years! And what I've generally found is, that it's not how long you practice, but how well. I feel that a student needs to be taught how to practice! I travel around Westchester NY and in addition to teaching the instrument, I encourage students to compose their own original pieces. I am a published composer and many of my music videos can be seen on You Tube. Read More

For beginning or young students (under age 8), music-related games are incorporated into lessons to encourage positive growth, rather than thinking of playing an instrument as a "chore". Small assignments are expected to be completed weekly, so that the child feels a sense of accomplishment and progress. For older or more advanced students, lessons are structured by a regimen of scales, exercises, and classical pieces. If the student so chooses, classical pieces can be exchanged for pop or contemporary music. Read More
