While I have taught violin lessons since 2010, my most recent passion for teaching occurred when I became an Adjunct Professor of Violin at New York University from 2016-2018. I held this position for two years while I was simultaneously completing my Masters degree, and maintained a studio of 10 students each semester. While at NYU, I taught a variety of students, from complete beginners to advanced violin players. I use a number of resources to teach students concepts in musical performance. This includes online resources and method books that enhance fundamentals and technique. I do believe that understanding of music theory is necessary to advance beyond the intermediate level, and this system has assisted in training many students over the years. By 19 i had about 20 students from the age of 5 all the way to age 45, from beginner to advanced levels. I usually begin with the Suzuki method for both children and adults, and once the student has a good command of fundamental violin technique, we progress in the style of the student's primary interest. I am very open to teaching a variety of styles, and can put together a detailed lesson plan for any direction the student may choose. In the event that the student is primarily focused on areas other than the classical repertoire, I definitely begin with Mark O'Connor's violin method that is specifically designed for students interested in traditional folk and fiddle music. Throughout my time here, I solidified my teaching skills through my learning in person and online due to the pandemic. It was very hard to complete the degree but I ended up being the first student in my class to officially pass the oral thesis and attain the degree. For students that are new to music I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, this book is really good to start to learn about music and the instrument, and then Suzuki method for repertoire.
