For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Suzuki, and easy scales. Once the student has progressed and appears to grasp the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce etudes and solo pieces. However, if a student is using a different book with their school music teacher, I always try to incorporate that book in my student's private lessons. In addition, I ask students what they are interested in playing, to give the student a sense of ownership and signifigance in their progress. For beginning students that are children I typically start with the Essential Elements Strings Book 1 in combination with Suzuki first book. As every student progresses at a different pace, I adjust my teaching curriculum accordingly. My teaching experience dates back to my grad school years, as I began teaching private lessons part time in 1995. Since then, I have been teaching more and more students both privately and in school setting. I have taught in Park School, The Friends School in Baltimore area, and Towson University preparatory music department, and currently I'm a faculty in McDonogh School Private Music department.
