As a violist and violinist I grew up through Suzuki pedagogy and the Barbara Barber books. For beginning students who are young I typically start them using Suzuki also. Once they have progressed and have an understanding for the instrument I will begin to introduce extra pieces outside the Suzuki books that are appropriate for recitals and competitions. My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes. I began my musical education with violin at age five and then with viola at ten. I went to Yewon Arts Middle School and Seoul Arts High School with viola. I won the Music Journal Competition and held my winner recital in Seoul, South Korea at age sixteen. After moved to Orange County, California, I continued my musical education with Iman Khosrowpour and Robert Becker. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance from Chapman University in Orange, California As a performing musician, I have been a violist in many different types of ensembles including chamber orchestras and strings ensemble.
