An adequate grasp of the fundamentals, along with consistent practice and rehearsal times, lead to a student expediting their abilities. For beginning students who are children, I like to start with Hal Leanard's Rubank Elementary Method Cornet/Trumpet. If a student has a grasp of the fundamentals, I work with the basic blues and scales to build a repetoire. For Adults, I like to work with jazz standards as well as H.L. My teaching experience sates back to running trumpet sectionals (in Junior High High School) for an All Star Jazz Band in my home town. When I was 16 I started teaching younger trumpet students as well. I descovered early on that I had a passion for directing and teaching. This stayed with me, and I always have incorporated education into my directing and leadership styles as a perormer. As a Musical Director for Royal Caribbean I would regularly have to teach an hour long show to my international band in under an hour and a half.I know that learning an instrument is hard work and that motivation is key to success.
