Those lightbulb moments for students drive what I do. I love working hard with students to accomplish musical goals, pushing them beyond what they thought they were capable of. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for the student at each lesson, taking small steps to achieve larger goals. I tailor each lesson to the student, using fun, creative methods to keep each student making creative, engaged and fun music! Read More

In my lessons, I aim to not only cover the skills in playing the instrument, but also basic music theory. I also incorporate reflective questions for students to get them thinking about the music in new ways (e.g., structurally, historically, philosophically, etc.). My aim is that students are able to do a lot of playing in lessons and to be able to ask questions (especially why some aspect of music works the way it does!). Read More

I taught private lessons several years ago during my undergraduate study at the University of North Texas. While I enjoyed it at the time, I remember thinking that I needed to concentrate on my own study to improve any teaching skills I had up to that point. I'm here to help the student. We all were students at one point and I remember how I felt in the learning stages. I'm just trying to help the student understand their instrument and assist while bringing confidence to venture the possibilities they can have with that instrument. My teaching style is a fun and simple one. I always say that practice is the best teacher but as an instructor in here to help with the journey. Read More

I am always conscious of myself to aim to be fun, understanding, and motivating. As long as my student is motivated to learn I could not care less if they were the worst player on the planet; I will endure thick and thin to guide them to success. The motivation to become better and to strive for excellence is what I look for in my students. I love music and while I don't expect all my students to pursue music as a career, I want my students coming away from my lessons purely enjoying music. Read More

I use humor and my own experiences to first establish a caring environment in which the student can be comfortable. Once that connection is established, I like to find out the students interests and make sure a personal goal is set that we can achieve together. There has to be something exciting the student can achieve in order to develop self-motivation. I employ a number of tactics to stimulate self-expression and problem solving skills, as independent work and practice is crucial in any musician's journey. Read More
