In high school I was a part of every ensemble available including the Lockport Marching Porters, jazz bands, pep bands, and the top group the Wind Symphony for three years. Simultaneously all four years I participated in every choir I could, as well as the spring musicals, often with lead roles. Everything from Bach to Charlie Parker to Ariana Grande deserves respect and being open minded from a teachers point of view is very important to retain students. Furthermore, it is crucial to not overcomplicate musical concepts. Too many teachers try to confuse their students with the objective of feeling powerful and intelligent.
