My teaching experience started in 2016, when I founded my private teaching business, "Brenden N. Music". I taught private trumpet lessons, as well as student teaching in an AP Music Theory class. In 2017, I continued to teach privately, as well as working for the Oklahoma State University Youth Orchestra, acting as an extra set of ears and running wind sectionals. I most recently taught as a Brass Instructor at the Salvation Army Youth Education Town in Arlington, TX, where I worked with around 180 kids, ages 7-12, and directed three brass bands of varying skill. Music is not made by the instrument be it voice, piano, trumpet or any other. Remember music is made by and comes through The Musician! I teach about how to be a musician. When students feel like musicians it fosters a greater sense of ownership and accomplishment bringing the joy needed to advance exponentially. As long as a student truly wants to learn and excel on their instrument, I believe I can help him or her achieve that goal. Their goal becomes my goal and it gives me great satisfaction to help them gain the musical and instrumental skills they need to reach their goal, whatever that may be. Students of all ages will work out of a technique/method book. Younger students will use Walter Beeler's Method for Cornet/Trumpet, more advanced students will play from Arban's. I emphasize a "classical" approach, especially with younger students to solidify their skills, encouraging intersted students to begin including jazz improvisation into their studies as their skills advance. My teaching style is to motivate students through fun while building a passion for music. I set expectations for each student and make sure they are a better musician today than they were yesterday. I enjoy finding new and exciting methods to teach any student. Nothing is more rewarding to me than helping a student get that important audition, scholarship, or honor.
