My teaching style is strongly centered around the idea that music is more than an activity, it is a way to communicate life skills from a teacher to a student. I think that it is important for students to set their own goals, achieve them, and be praised for their success. For beginning younger students I begin by working a very short time with parents to assure them their children are in a positive learning environment. Parents of small children are encouraged to attend each lesson with their child. The core principles of musicality, breathing, and perspective are taught. The next step is sound and movement. I tailor my teaching to each student's current ability and level of interest. Every student is different in personality, interest and motivation, and I do my level best to approach each student individually with this in mind. I try to encourage each student to practice regularly to achieve the weekly goals I set at each lesson for the student. I believe helping the student achieve success each week is vital to his development as a musician, for I believe this success will often serve to motivate the student to put in the work necessary to advance his skills, which will ultimately become lead the student to become more self-motivated. I have various methods of teaching, all tailored to each students' strengths. However, all students will learn to be musicians and by becoming one, students will develop their personal styles and unique musical signature all while being coached in proper musical training. My teaching career started as I was about to graduate high school when I began teaching private trumpet lessons to beginners. In college, I continued to teach private music lessons until I got my degree in music education. Since then, I've had the privelege to teach public school, private school, music camps, as well as private lessons and tutoring (for over 13 years now).
