My teaching experience started in 2016, when I founded my private teaching business, "Brenden N. Music". I taught private trumpet lessons, as well as student teaching in an AP Music Theory class. In 2017, I continued to teach privately, as well as working for the Oklahoma State University Youth Orchestra, acting as an extra set of ears and running wind sectionals. I most recently taught as a Brass Instructor at the Salvation Army Youth Education Town in Arlington, TX, where I worked with around 180 kids, ages 7-12, and directed three brass bands of varying skill. Seems I've always been a teacher, even when I didn't realize it; from my school days as first chair helping other students, through college where I taught for the Southern Nevada School of Music and at Vesleys Music Conservatory, through the time I received my first certified public school teaching position and after that as a business owner with employees, I have been teaching and learning. My teaching experience started in 1998 while I was the lead keyboardist at my congregation in Los Angeles. At the time I ran a small 6 student studio at home. I also visited students in their home for convenience. I was not before long that I was able to teach a group sessions in my congregation for a few years of which several students were able to achieve their musical goals. I have taught lessons since the beginning of college with all ages and learning types. Teaching has always been a passion of mine so I pursue it whenever I can. I taught lessons at both UAFS and DU during my time earning my degrees. I held a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at DU where I assisted with rehearsals, lessons, and planning, which has helped me build my teaching techniques and learn the quickest way to improvement. I love to watch my students become better versions of themselves through the medium of music. I never want my students to be satisfied with reaching a destination on their goal charts. I want my students to become so infatuated with the journey, that they will seek to continue to look for new experiences to explore. I create this environment by keeping lessons diverse and dynamic. I make each student compile a list of goals for themselves, 3 big goals, 5 goals the lead to each of the 3 big goals, 10 goals to lead to each of the 5 goals, and finally, daily goals that will help us accomplish the 10 goals.
