I like to learn who my student is before starting anything. I want to know what their interests are and what their view on music is. I then take that and bond with them and teach them in a certain way that matches their thoughts and personalities the best. I like to have fun and not be too strict as long as the student is doing their work, but if they are not staying on track the fun is replaced with more focus on concepts to be sure they are learning what is needed. My teaching style is to motivate students through fun while building a passion for music. I set expectations for each student and make sure they are a better musician today than they were yesterday. The ideas of practicing and performing teach students what it means to be organized, skilled, and hard working. I think that it is important for students to set their own goals, achieve them, and be praised for their success. Students need opportunity to play along with more experience performers and I seek out every chance to insert my students into this role. I have secured opportunities for students to be the opening act for Texas country star Jolie Holiday.
