Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Heidi was born in Sunnyvale, California and began her musical studies at the age of ten, studying French horn. She graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy. Heidi studied horn under Douglas Hill at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she received her undergraduate degree in music performance. She completed her Masters degree at the University of Maryland-College Park and studied with Gregory Miller. She has participated in various summer festivals including the Aspen Music Festival, the Las Vegas Music Festival, and the National Orchestral Institute. Read More

My professional experience includes trumpet with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and the Fabulous Fifties Big Band. My professional teaching experience started in 1986 with teaching students one-on-one. My students have achieved lifelong skills on piano, brass, woodwind, and guitar. I teach in my studio and I travel to family homes. I teach classical, jazz, and gospel music styles. I focus on the fundamentals. When a student has a firm grasp on the fundamentals they can survive in any arena being a musician may place you in. Additionally I like to help my students discover their unique voice and how that uniqueness helps to add to a bands overall performance. Additionally, To me band is much more then just an extracurricular activity. For beginners, the fundamentals are essential to building a strong musical foundation. These include the technical aspects of playing the horn, as well as listening to all forms of music in a concentrated manner in order to enable the student to not just PLAY, but to also LISTEN. I find music has two important aspects to emphasize, reading and understanding music theory on sight, and hearing and interpreting music. For reading and music theory at it's most basic level I use books like Arban's method. This book contains scales and patterns that are easy to digest for someone learning to read music while also building up the intricate brass technique needed for all brass instruments. For hearing and interpreting I use simple excercises to start like having a student play back a simple line I play to them or have them identify what kind of scale it chord I just played. Read More
