For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. Particularly for college-bound musicians who wish to major in music, the majority of their lessons will be based on preparing solo literature for All District or college auditions. Read More

Classes are broken down into three sections 1. breathing and body exercises 2. vocal exercises 3. repertoire and style. In the breathing and body exercises we discuss the idea of breathing for singing and proper vocal support. This is fundamental to good vocal technique and is the basis for everything that we will be working on achieving with our voice. In the vocal exercises section we will engage in various vocal sounds using scales and arpeggios. Read More

It personally took me more than a minute for my aha! moments. Every student is different and should be taught in the most positive ways. Theres no reason a student should feel rushed or down. We take singing lessons to learn ourselves and have fun mainly! Im a very visual learner so I tend to teach using some wild visual tactics. I want to develop confidence in ourselves and a comfortability that makes us eventually not afraid to be goofy on stage or even by ourselves! Read More

Depending on the student, my methods will go on a case-by-case basis. I cater to the individual and what your personal goals are musically. For beginning children students the first few lessons would go over basic ideas of pitch and fundamentals of good breathing and support. For intermediate students, typically a lesson would involve warmups and technical work and then I would ask a student to bring in a song they want to work on in lessons or I would suggest a song to help and assist with their current vocal goals. I have been involved in music my entire life, starting in a percussion group and choir in elementary school. I started on the clarinet at the beginning of middle school. I taught myself how to play the clarinet amongst the other instruments I play with the help and guidance of college professors, band directors, and tricks I noticed along the way. I have been selected and performed in multiple honor bands across my time in middle and high school, including Troy University's honor band and All State. Read More
