For every student, no matter the age, I first ask what they want to gain from this class/lesson. Once that has been determined, I make sure the student understands basic fundamentals of music using the Suzuki method, or the Feierabend method, depending on how old the student is. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music and vocal health. I graduated most recently from the University of North Texas with a doctorate degree in vocal performance. I am currently a PhD student there focusing on Performing Arts Health. I like using all kinds of inspirational material such as listening to reference tracks of music that the student is interested in; to provide a more personalized experience in discovering what their sound is. This also includes doing art projects(such as painting and drawing) as I believe visuals are just as important to inspiring creativity as sound is. If the student does not know what they would like to do for the first part of the lesson I typically set multiple instruments around my studio and connect them to amps and start improving or playing something and have the student join in on the jam and then move onto having them take our over and then we go from there. I am new to music instruction, though I do have previous experience in childcare. I worked as a youth development coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club of America as well as a youth soccer coach and referee. Musically, I have been playing music for many years mostly in CCM, jazz, latin, and funk groups and I have been singing in the Inspirational Chorale at the University of Arkansas for two years as well. I studied ethnomusicology and Japanese music in graduate school, so my teaching style is inclusive and diverse. I have been performing in orchestra since the age of 15 and have performed in ensembles such as band, world music, Latin music, jazz, electronic music, and more.
