My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate career, as I began teaching private lessons in 2012 and have been consistently teaching students in various settings since. In addition to my private studio, I am the flute instructor for several marching bands in the Tri-Cities area. I have been teaching young people and adults how to play musical instruments for over 20 years. Currently I conduct after school music programs at the University of Memphis Campus School, CTK Lutheran School in Memphis, and Incarnation Catholic School in Collierville. I also have performed with many local bands in a variety of music styles. I enjoy playing out and I try to instill this natural attraction to music making in all of my students. Read More

My teaching style focuses on a student's strengths and successes. Any time a student has an "a ha!" moment, we stop and dissect what exactly happened. Perhaps the student used a new lip placement or air angle? We talk about this and figure out what they did to improve. Next, I encourage that same type of change in other aspects of their playing. I am a music coach that helps students push through the frustration that comes with learning something new, to the gratifying victory of reaching personal goals. With typical and non-typically developing students, adaptive lessons are possible with the use of larger picks or adaptive instruments. Everyone learns differently and as a music teacher, I adapt to the needs of my students. I started teaching lessons during my final years of my undergraduate degree. Throughout the years, I have maintained a studio in each city. During my master's degree at University of Louisiana, I was a teacher of record for a woodwind technique course, which focused on scales and supplementary lessons to the student's lesson with the flute professor. At the University of Memphis, I taught supplementary lessons as well as music theory courses. Read More
