I began teaching music in high school by leading flute sectionals in the marching band and music theory to my fellow choir members. I focused on performing during my undergraduate studies; then had the opportunity to share my musical talents in a different way when I began my music therapy career. I graduated from Free Will Baptist Bible Collage and took my flute lessons at Belmont University. I have had the privilege of playing with several groups including; the Tupelo MS symphony orchestra, Belmont orchestra, the Belmont Opera company, the Nashville Philharmonic and the Philharmonic flute choir. I have accompanied several choirs, and played at several weddings. I started teaching some younger players in High School, and after that I focused on getting my own skill in the upward projectory. I like to incorporate humor and games into my lessons that strengthen the student's interest and ability. I motivate students to accomplish weekly goals and I set goals that are achievable for each student. I love to see the progress and confidence that students get as a result of studying music. I use methods and teaching styles that I learned in Venezuela's El Sistema. I take time with each student to not only correct mistakes, but also teach the student how to properly practice so those mistakes don't occur any longer. Read More

The main objective that I personally strive for is to ensure that my students are properly recognized for their hard work. I've seen many instances when kids will stop participating in extracurricular activities due to lack of positive support from those they would expect it from. I believe that validation, especially from the parents, truly helps students maintain an interest in music. It helps them develop a personal drive to succeed not only in music, but in life. Read More
