I began teaching music when I was 18, I began teaching private drums and piano lessons in my home studio, I've been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 7 years. I will work with each student to help them understand the fundamentals of jazz, for example, knowing major scales, minor scales, and all of the modes that we typically see in most jazz repertoire. For students that are more advanced we will work on learning how to play over common chord progressions and learn how to play songs found in the Great American Songbook. For students at a higher level, we can work on cementing more advanced techniques such as how to play over chord substitutions. Read More

The first thing I like to establish with my students is a solid practice routine. There is no formula that works perfectly for everyone, but I do have a very good system which can easily be altered to fit each students individual needs. The next step is to set realistic goals. With every student, I asses the goals of the child before we decide how to move forward. The curriculum for each student will change according to the ability level, practice schedule, and goals of the student.
