I make it a point to individualize my lesson plans for each student and cater to their unique needs. As a general starting place, however, I typically start with Trevor Wye's Beginner's Book for the Flute: Part 1 for my novice students. Additionally, I introduce the 12 major scales and arpeggios- which we continue to study and build on throughout our lessons. I like Faber and Faber piano adventures because they teach a lot like I do. I've been developing a power point and You Tube presentation to go along with the book for those students who need more visual stimulus. I like various curruiculum's with Trumpet and Brass players. I stay around the Trumpet players Bible using an Arban's book with some Clark exercises along with the students band book to help them not to form bad habits. Read More

I have a Masters degree in music composition from the University of Memphis with a minor in music theory. I also have a bachelors degree in music composition from Texas A&M at Commerce Texas with a minor in piano. For beginners, I start off with the basics. For example, naming each string on the guitar, curvature of the fingers, embouchure on the headjoint of a flute, and achieving a crow on an oboe reed. For school age children, I use books or sheet music used in their own practice at school or Youth Orchestras during lessons. For any ability level, I use any materials during lessons that my students want to work on that achieves their goals but also keeps them motivated. Read More
