For younger students, I utilize method books to familiarize the student with reading music. Scales, and whole tones to develop the embouchure and intonation. For intermediate and advanced students an emphasis is placed on mastering the essentials necessary to succeed in the musical ensembles and as a soloist.Articulation, timing, phrasing and dynamics are the key focus to further the players technique. One of things I that I find discouraging is when teachers stick with one method. Every student is different! As a result, my method of teaching very much depends on the student. If I have a student who is struggling with fundamentals, then we will focus on fundamentals. If I have a student who is struggling with articulations, then we will focus on articulations in lessons. I have been teaching private lessons for five years now to students aged 8-18. I have also taught general music classes to 3 month-two year olds in an early childhood music class. My students have excelled through solos, ensembles, festivals, etc. I believe in consistency of instruction and positive reinforcement and criticism.
