After graduating from college, I began teaching privately in my home state of Texas at the middle and high school levels in New Braunfels and Austin. Soon, I began teaching adults as well and when I moved to Washington D.C. in fall of 2006, I became the Music Instructor at The Art and Drama Therapy Institute, a center for adults with developmental disabilities. This experience had a great impact on me in terms of understanding the big picture in that the goals and methods relating to the technical aspects of music lessons, but the grand value that music offers in terms of the emotional and spiritual rewards as well. I'm just starting out pursuing teaching as a professional. During my undergraduate degree, I gave some piano lessons to a next door neighbor, and also also tutored my professor's daughter in music theory. Those moments were crucial for developing what I want to be doing: infusing music lessons with music theory and composition. I feel that learning to play music becomes an entire new experience when one understands the theory behind what they are playing and and furthermore is excited about generating their own material. Daniel is a versatile musician, composer, and educator. He began playing saxophone at age 11, and has since expanded his repertoire to include multiple woodwind instruments. Originally from midcoast Maine, Daniel has been based primarily out of New York since 2008 when he began his studies at Purchase College. Daniel looks forward to remaining an active teacher in the tri-state area, and a return to Purchase College, this time as a graduate student and he has also recently moved full-time to New York City! With younger students I try to be as patient as possible by allowing them to tell me exactly what they are looking to learn in the lessons. I then base my lesson plan on this interaction and build the relationship from there. I am a saxophone player primarily, and have experience playing and teaching all 4 major saxophones. I also have studied and taught flute and clarinet for over 4 years now. I have extensive performance experience from marching band to musical pit orchestras to pop bands at amusement parks.
