I began teaching guitar lessons back in 2008 and have been doing so for almost 10 years. After my bachelors I was then hired by the Community Arts Partnership through CalArts and have been teaching/facilitating workshops throughout Los Angeles teaching West African drumming, singing and dance. I have taught all ages from kindergarten to adults. I have also had the privilege to teach in the Juvenile Justice System, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and other community based centers throughout Los Angeles. Read More

I like my students to tell me what they would like to get from taking lessons. I then integrate what they want to learn with what I think they should learn. While learning a song or piece of music, I teach the student pertinent music concepts and saxophone technique. I find giving students scales and exercises to learn without context is often discouraging for them because they are not sure why and how they apply in other music situations. Read More

I try to have as much fun as possible while still maintaining a high expectiation of performance. I am, by trade and training, a comedian, so jokes and laughter abound. Most of my students might say I'm not as funny as I think I am, but we still have fun! I am, however a stickler for learning the basics of music theory and correct use of vocabulary. Students won't move on to the next level until I know they have a firm grasp of prior concepts. Read More

I use the Rubank method of books as a traditonal conservatory approach to early progression. I find their systematic flow efficient and effective to consistent improvement. We would then move to fulfilling repertoire that would qualify the student for collegiate study and competitive performance. For those interested in jazz, pop, and rock, we would proceed to study several instruction books and recorded material that over the years I have found to successfully progress a student in those genres. Nothing is more rewarding then passing your love for music on to a student. Each person learns at there own pace and skill level. With each lesson we will set small reachable and realistic goals. These goals will fit in with your larger overall goals. My teaching style is different then others as I'm able to tailor each lesson to fit your needs rather then go through a strict regiment. For beginner students I will use the book "Accent on Achievements" by Jack O'Reilly and Mark Williams. I will show them the fundamentals of their saxophones. I will teach students all the correct fingerings and the alternate fingerings. I will teach students how to read, write, and sight read sheet music. I will teach students the basic terms of music and very basic music theory. For example: Time signature, bass and treble clef, meter, staff, etc. Read More

For beginning students, my primary resource is generally the purple Primer level Faber book, however I often use principles of teaching from Simply Music and Piano Safari that allow beginning students to get right into playing some very interesting songs without having to read them. I think reading is important, don't get me wrong. However, I think that the ability to be versatile on the sounds of the piano without the abstraction of music notes can be very helpful for fostering a love for music early on. Read More
