My teaching experience started in high school when I started teaching harp and piano part time. I had a close relationship with my music teachers growing up and I hope to establish the same type of relationship with my own students as I have with previous ones. It's also important that there is a balance between fun and time put in. Without practice, one cannot play an instrument well. So, along with that actual academic aspect of teaching music, my job is to encourage, motivate and to help pleasantly surprise the beginning student with they own untapped ability. Sometimes this takes gentle prodding, sometimes humor and a bit of controlled craziness, sometimes, with a parents approval, it might take a push not unlike preparing for a math text the following week. While I try to follow a mostly K12 standard structure to my private lessons at the end of the day I will be tailoring my instruction to my students wants and needs. I like to set attainable weekly goals with my students in regards to technique and style that will be implemented via exercises, scales and into our repertoire.
