For the youngest beginners, my focus is on the enjoyment of music. Using either The Music Tree or My First Piano Adventures, I teach children about the elements of music and how to appreciate music, before going into actual technical work on the piano. Maya was born in Odessa, Ukraine. She started learning to play piano at the age of five and hasnt stopped since. Maya studied at the Conservatory in Ukraine and achieved Master of Arts in piano performance and piano teaching. Later she accompanied for dancers and singers of the Odessa Theater of Opera and Ballet. Maya teach music to childrens and adults more than 20 years. After moving to the US, she worked as an accompanist at the Andahazy School of Classical Ballet in Minnesotaand continues to teach. Read More

As previously stated, I believe that each session should be individualized to best suit each student's needs. For a typical beginner, I will first teach posture and note identification followed by basic warm-ups. Once the basics are taught, the student will be allowed more flexibility in the repertoire and specific skills he/she wants to learn. For beginning students that are children, I like to start with Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements or any other book that has the basic principles of music in them. Once the student has progressed and has a good grasp of the fundamentals, I will bring in other repertoire appropriate to their level. For adults, I like to find out what the student is interested in and then tailor the lesson toward that to keep lessons engaging and fun no matter what their abilities are. I always try to keep the lessons fun and entertaining.
