I started out at the age of nine playing the trumpet, and continued this for two years before switching to piano. Ultimately, I found my love in playing the guitar, and took lessons for two years. As time went on, I advanced as a guitarist and actually expanded into new musical instruments. I began playing in local rock and r&b bands at the age of 15. These were some of my most influential experiences, as they expanded my musical tastes into jazz fusion, swing, standards and Latin Jazz. After graduating high school, I attended community college and then went to New York to study jazz theory, where I played a few sets with Sweetback in 2000 that led up to being asked to play with the band. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I enjoy sharing the magic of music with others as both a performer and instructor. I studied piano, cello and engineering at USC and Duke University. I've had the pleasure of serving as a section cellist with various orchestras throughout my career in Georgia and South Carolina. I've studied piano with Dr. Frothingham and cello with Dr. Read More

My teaching style, above all, is to create a space for each individual student where they feel safe. I want my students to be able to express their frustrations, or express what they need me to change in my teaching style, or be able to experiment and have fun! In that vein, my studio is also a safe place for ALL, including those who identify as LGBTQIA, people who are disabled, or those of any faith or immigrant status. Read More

I've been playing piano since I was four years old and my biggest goals for my students are for them to become confident and excited about music, whether they want to join a band, accompany choirs, perform, or just play for fun. I have taught all ages and firmly believe in the lifelong benefits of music lessons. I have experience in several musical venues including accompaniment, solo performance, group performance, church service, and musical theater and play everything from 80's rock standards to classical pieces. Students are taught basic reading, fingering technique, and rote memorization, but are also encouraged to learn to play by ear. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Djembe
My methods are largely based on learning the basics of theory and how to apply it intuitively in music (no matter what genre). I teach this at a patient pace, with teaching diatonic scales first, then transcending those scales into arpeggiated patterns. Learning this way not online teaches the mind, but also teaches the muscle memory of a person to remember the basics before moving to an intermediate level of theory. Read More
