I believe that music instruction should not only be educational, but also enjoyable, exciting and rewarding. I encourage my students to practice on a regular basis, because it helps the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. by trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. I feel it is important to address each students learning style on an individual level. For young children and beginner's, I pull from resources that encourage basic fundamentals, not inclusive or limited to, Bastein, Alfred, Faber & Faber, and Hal Leonard. According to one's ability and interest, Hanon, Sonatina's Sonata's, familiar and classic's, are encouraged. Different genre's are used as part of performance and support in teaching a theory, technic, ear/sight reading, or performance application. Read More

Most of my students (who don't already know) start off with basic theory (Major Scale & Major and Minor Chord Formulas). Whatever their ultimate goal for learning would determine where I would take it from there. If your goal is to play one song for your significant other we can do just that. If your goal is to perform we can cater to that as well. Maybe you're goal is to learn enough to write your own songs. Read More

I started teaching when I first got my drivers license in order to maintain an income that was related to music. I quickly learned that I was quite decent at explaining concepts and connecting with students on different levels. When I was 19 I started working at the School Of Rock where I taught group classes, 1 on 1, and helped put shows on based on curriculum that I was given by the school. Read More

For piano beginners I use the Faber book series. I prefer these books because it gives a mixture of theory and technique that I think is essential to learn at an early stage. For violin beginners I prefer to use the Suzuki Method books. These books are great because they get the student playing quickly, while still introducing the foundations of basic theory for reading music. Beginning guitar is a little more flexible depending on the students goals and the style they would like to learn. Read More

For beginners, it's important to build from a solid foundation, so I emphasize on creating a strong understanding of musical concepts. From there, the student is able to decide on the direction they would like to move towards, classical, pop, etc. I typically teach through the Alfred methods, but am also flexible & have experience from teaching through additional materials that work best for the student. For students with previous musical experience, we decide together if the student would like to continue with their current curriculum or move in a different direction. Read More
