I typically structure my lessons based on each individual student and their level of commitment. Some of my students want to go to college for music performance, and others just want to sound better in their school's band. I take that into account when choosing particular warmups and repertoire. I always begin my lessons with a few duets with my students. This helps strengthen the student's sight reading skills and it also gives them a chance to hear me play. Read More

At the beginning of my experience with each student, I assess what the goals are for each student/their family, in the musical learning process. I base my teaching on that, within the framework of standard music teaching practices. Throughout the process of the student's learning, I periodically assess, not only the student's progress, but also the student's satisfaction with their learning process. As the need arises, I will make modifications or changes to the teaching, which better suit the student. Read More

It is such a joy to see students progress in lessons, especially younger students. My former piano teacher of 10 years inspired me so much and was the most amazing and professional piano instructor in my area. She really lived by the reward system. Anytime, I would finish a goal or objective for the day, whether it be scales, or finishing a pieces, she would reward us with stickers or candy or anything to motivate us in love. Read More

I will pass on the warmup methods that I was trained to do from my professors at Berklee and Manhattan School of Music. We will also go over the difference between practicing and jamming and how to do both in between lessons for I believe they are both important for vocal development for different reasons. I will keep an astute eye and ear on elements such as breath management, intonation, tone quality, phrasing, diction, expression, interpretation, stage presence, preparation, musicianship, and last but not least, attitude. Music inspires every human being in some capacity. Not everybody can appreciate all genres of music. While there are melodies and harmonies that are pivitol for creating a strong foundation as a musician, I prefer to work with the student in a genre that will inspire the student to want to practice. If there is desire to practice, the student will continue to grow musically. Therefore, I don't want to force a student to play Mozart when it might be the music of Bruce Hornsby that inspires the student to live another day and vice versa. Read More

For beginners with voice, I teach students about the voice and how to sing healthily. It is very important to learn how your body works and how to sing properly without damaging your voice. Next, we will practice vocal exercise to teach you proper technique. We will the move on to learning repertoire that is age-appropriate. We can sing repertoire of any genre or style- your choice! As we continue, you'll learn and expand your repertoire and learn how to sing properly, prepare for auditions, perform, and be confident on stage. Read More
