I feel qualified to teach children, age 5-18, and to do so in a way that each child feels happy, special, and encouraged. Typically I start with Hal Leonard or Alfred's beginner books. Once the students grasp the fundamentals I add in theory, scales, and some fun stuff that they are interested as well. When the student is engaged and interested, they are more likely to continue and practice. It is not possible for every part to be fun and games, however, even the most fundamental learning can be engaging! Nothing is more enjoyable than seeing a music student climb the learning curve and self recognize and appreciate their progress other than, perhaps watching their passion grow over the long term as they successfully step into the performance phase and play a well practiced piece for their friends, family, peers, or others. I have been teaching private lessons for 10 years. Encouraging students to practice regularly and to have fun with their instrument is essential for the learning process. I stress the importance of these two things so that the student may develop a love for music and their instrument of choice.
