I've been teaching piano to students of all ages as my sole profession since 2002.  I usually have between 20 and 25 students at a time.  I have also earned certification through the Music Teachers National Association through a combination of testing and proofs of competency.  I keep up to date professionally  through my memberships in Lancaster Music Teachers Association and the Main Line Music Teachers Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers and in my role as the Center Coordinator for the Music Development Program.  Most of all though, I've learned from my students, who are always the best teachers.  The part I love best about my job is that I get to cater the curriculum to each student individually.  Each student can have their own "best assignment". Teaching violin is my greatest passion in life and I have dreamt of teaching since I was very young. I went to Mason Gross for both music education and also for violin performance. I teach strings in public school at East Greenwich and I play in many orchestras in the area. Recently, I have performed with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra and I served as section leader for the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria where we performed in the Haydnsaal and St Stephens Kirchedom in Vienna and these were huge opportunities! For all of my students of any age, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and learning a recognizable song hand picked by the student and approved by me. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce jazz repertoire, sight reading and things like, technical exercises, jazz improvisation, theory, ear training and classical music etudes. I began teaching my sophomore year of college teaching a beginner class aimed at teaching 5-8 year olds the foundations of music in a fun and interesting way. Soon after, I started teaching private piano and voice lessons to students age 8-18 as well as directing performance program shows. I have found that letting students pick their own material to work on helps keep them motivated and interested.
