I like to take the first lesson to learn more about my students and see if they have any prior knowledge about reading, playing, hearing and/or practicing music. For young children, I usually choose teaching books that are more fun and give them a basic start with understanding musical symbols by performing tasks in their books. Once students begin to understand how to read and play, I start to introduce the next level of material for them. For adults, I focus on what they are interested in and give more in-depth theory or compositional discussions if they wish or guide them towards playing pieces they always wanted to learn. Read More

Students will not continue studying, practicing, and performing if they don't enjoy the lesson experience and relationship with their teacher. Learning happens most meaningfully and rapidly (not to mention is sustained) when students connect with their teacher, and that most easily occurs when teachers are in tune with their students' interests and goals. I have created an outline of books/pieces and what they will accomplish from beginner student to professional levels in both jazz and classical saxophone tracks. In both of my classical and jazz lessons (for beginners), we will start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence. From there, it’svery flexible in terms of pace and how quickly the students wants to learn and grow. My journey as a singer started as soon as I could talk. I won my hometowns pageant (Little Miss Rockwall) by singing and dancing to a Shirly Temple song. I was singing on stage with my mom in church and eventually was leading music in chapel at my private school and in youth group services. I competed in my school choir and did solo competitions as well.
