I think it is important to keep the oral tradition of teaching alive so most of the content during lessons will be learnt by ear, though supplemental physical materials will be used. Learning primarily by ear will help build student's listening skills which will be useful down the road when rehearsing with others or learning new tunes quickly. The student will start learning songs that they choose right off the bat, this will keep them engaged and more likely to practice. Read More

I have been labeled a passionate, patient, and fun instructor. I focus on goal driven lessons entailing theory, ear training, repertoire, technique, and history. I studied ethnomusicology and Japanese music in graduate school, so my teaching style is inclusive and diverse. I have been performing in orchestra since the age of 15 and have performed in ensembles such as band, world music, Latin music, jazz, electronic music, and more. I compose electronic music with the implementation of live instruments, vocals, and effects. Read More

I like using all kinds of inspirational material such as listening to reference tracks of music that the student is interested in; to provide a more personalized experience in discovering what their sound is. This also includes doing art projects(such as painting and drawing) as I believe visuals are just as important to inspiring creativity as sound is. If the student does not know what they would like to do for the first part of the lesson I typically set multiple instruments around my studio and connect them to amps and start improving or playing something and have the student join in on the jam and then move onto having them take our over and then we go from there. For my beginner students it varies for me when it comes to my delivery method I like to use colors and shapes to be reflective.
