I also use Syncopation by Ted Reed, which is a fantastic tool for building independence, improving reading skills, and applying rhythms in a musical way. I am a passionate musician who loves to share knowledge of music to students. I started learning guitar at age 5, and for nearly 20 years guitar has been my instrument of choice! I'm a 2 time graduate from Musicians Institute where I was awarded with a scholarship. I majored in Guitar Performance and Independent Artist. For saxophone and clarinet, I use multiple books, depending on the student's needs and goals and a host of my own materials and methods I have developed from years of teaching. For all of my students I start by allowing them to sit and feel the kit. Building a strong trusting relationship is important. I then proceed to dive into teaching simple 4/4 grooves to loosen the student up which processes into teaching basic rhythm studies and eventually the concepts of feel, groove, dynamics and of course timing.
