For students, if any caliber, I start by teaching fundamentals. Fundamentals make it possible to enjoy playing the instrument. This includes things like scales, breathing exercises, warmups. After that I then will begin teaching skills. Often times, when playing an instrument, one skill is made up of multiple skills. It was a great honor. Late into highschool I was accepted at the DCI CADETS for 3rd trumpet part. This is the second best drum corp (at the time) in the world out of over a dozen different division 1 corps. My methods vary with the age of the student. For beginners who are children, I usually start with Alfred's Basic Piano Library, which I try to go through most of that series. During that time, the children will occasionally play anything they wish to play that is interesting or fun to them.
