When you are a vocalist, your body is your instrument, and you must know how to produce sound correctly and healthily in order to be as successful as possible. I truly believe that theory is a very important aspect of piano playing, and I will probably begin with a book that has a theory aspect to match the playing assignments, as I did with my past piano students. I would never "push" a student, but I do encourage students to strive for their best. I know when I need to adapt the situation to fit a student's specific needs. My methods are adaptable based on the student's previous or current instruction with private teachers or their school teachers. For all students I love to play along and model concepts for them. I involve a lot of kinesthetic movement based lessons along with visual and aural aids. I get to know the type of learner my student is and then plan my instruction to fit their learning style.
